People and Princes of India:
Portraits by Emily Eden
Editorial Design for a landmark exhibition volume that unites Emily Eden’s complete published series for the first time in India. The publication brings together rare items from the Eden Family Archives alongside an exceptional corpus of Lahore Company paintings, balancing complex historical documentation with an elegant, scholarly layout.
Emily Eden was a novelist, artist, and prolific communicator whose work offers a vivid glimpse into a tumultuous period of 19th-century India. The publication’s design channels the aesthetic sensibility of the period while modernising it for today’s reader. The resulting layout uses a clean, disciplined typographic hierarchy to seamlessly balance her lively text with her intricate illustrations, giving equal prominence to her voice and her art.
