New Found Lands
New Found Lands is an extensive, scholarly art volume that tracks the evolution of landscape painting in India over a pivotal two-hundred-year period (1780 to 1980). Featuring essays and notes by renowned art historian Giles Tillotson, the volume examines how the depiction of the Indian land transformed from an imposed colonial gaze into an expression of national freedom and modernist identity.
The design objective was to build a rigorous, textually dense archival publication that honours the sheer stylistic breadth of the collection - ranging from British aquatints to post-independence Indian abstraction - while maintaining a cohesive, elegant, and rhythmically engaging editorial structure.
